I’ll be honest—I’m not a bonsai expert. Not even close.
In fact, I’m writing this before I’ve even purchased my first indoor bonsai kit.
So why start a blog about bonsai trees?
Simple: I want to learn. And I figured there were probably other people out there just like me—curious, maybe a little intimidated, but excited by the idea of growing a tiny tree in their home.
That’s why I created this site.
I plan to document every step of my beginner bonsai journey, from choosing the right kit to shaping my first tree and (hopefully) keeping it alive and thriving. This isn’t about showing off perfect results. It’s about learning, experimenting, and sharing the highs and lows of growing bonsai in a regular indoor space.
Here’s where I’m at right now:
What I Know So Far
- Indoor bonsai trees are great for beginners, especially if you don’t have access to outdoor space.
- Not all trees work well indoors—Ficus, Jade, and Chinese Elm seem to be the most beginner-friendly.
- Most starter kits come with a pot, some tools, and seeds or a young tree—but not all kits are created equal.
What I’m Still Figuring Out
- Should I start from seeds or get a pre-grown starter tree?
- What kind of light do I need? Will a south-facing window work, or should I invest in a grow light?
- How much time will I actually need to care for my tree?
What’s Next
In the coming days, I’ll be researching a few beginner bonsai kits and making my first purchase. I’ll share what I looked for, what I chose, and why. After that, I’ll post updates about how the tree is doing—photos, challenges, mistakes, wins, and lessons learned.
If you’re just starting out too, I hope this helps you feel less overwhelmed. We’re in this together.
Let’s grow something awesome—one little tree at a time.
